Counseling enables you to express your innermost feelings and emotions and explore your own situation. It provides a safe, confidential environment for you to be heard and to voice your concerns and problems.
Counseling does not give advice or provide solutions to your problems – but it can help you to find your own solutions, recognising that you are the expert in your own world.
A counselor can share your journey of exploration and help you to work through unpleasant or painful feelings. This often results in your being able to see things differently and to let go of negative thoughts, attitudes and assumptions. Counseling encourages you to be empowered, allows you to choose where to make changes and helps you to make them.
Counseling helps you to feel in charge of your own life. It encourages autonomy and enables you to feel happier and be more self-accepting.
